SECURITY ~ Difference between hacker and cracker
When you think about security, it is strong that some of your thoughts drift to hackers and crackers. These are two security threats you need to consider. But do you know the difference?
To understand the methodology of a hacker or cracker, one must first understand what a hacker and cracker is.
Hacker:
A hacker is a person interested in the mysterious workings of any computer operating system. Hackers are most often programmers. Hackers obtain advanced knowledge of operating systems and programming languages. They might discover holes in the systems and the reasons for those holes. Hackers constantly seek new knowledge, share what they have discovered freely, and never intentionally damage data.
Cracker:
A cracker is a person who otherwise violates the system integrity of remote computers with malicious intent. It should be noted that crackers are also hackers. But their ways of working differ a lot. After gaining unauthorized access, crackers destroy vital data, cause problems to their targets. Crackers can be easily identified because their actions are malicious.
The goal of a cracker is to break the security of computers and networks. This is an illegal activity. They use their knowledge for personal gain and to breach security on networks. They gain extensive knowledge about computers, their programming, software, codes and languages, and use it to break into computers for criminal purposes.
In short:
Hackers and crackers are people who have an in-depth knowledge of computers and networks, ranging from how they are built, how they work, programming and everything related to security.
Hacker is a person who identifies flaws in security systems to break into computer systems.
While Cracker may be someone who unethically exploits highly sensitive information and uses the flaws in security systems to their advantage.
