NETWORK ~ POP Protocol
The POP (Post Office Protocol) allows you to download e-mails from a mail server to your computer.
POP has been updated twice since it was first published in 1984. Post Office Protocol Version 2 (POP2) was released in 1985. The Post Office Protocol version 3 (POP3) was released in 1988; this version includes new authentication mechanisms and other actions.
How does POP work?
Incoming email messages are stored on a POP server until the user logs in (with an email client) and downloads the messages to their computer. The POP standard does not include the means to send messages. For sending e-mail, the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is used.
